Online InstructorCopy of the Instructor role, but without the ability to manage the Navbar. Online Instructor is the default role assigned to any instructor assigned to teach an asynchronous or synchronous online course in CS9 The Online Instructor is the manager of the course. Online Instructors can add/edit/manage all the content and activities of the course and perform all grading functions. Appears in Classlist as “Online Instructor” Uses: Online Instructors are automatically enrolled in academic courses via CS9. Role was developed by Online Learning team with Syed in order to make sure OL instructors don’t change navbar or homepage to maintain consistency. Teaching AssistantExact copy of the Instructor role Teaching Assistants can manage the course. Appears in Classlist as “Teaching Assistant” Uses: Typically used for enrolling substitute instructors or manually enrolling assigned instructors into course while waiting to be officially assigned to the course in CS9; also used for clinical instructors in nursing courses; anyone else requesting instructor-type access to an Academic course It is OKAY to manually enroll users into academic courses with this role. Appears in Classlist as “Competencies Coordinator” Uses: Used only for pilot projects with the Competency or Standards tool. Super LeaderCopy of the Instructor role with added ability to enroll Participants and Leaders into non-academic courses. Super Leaders can manage the course. Super Leaders can add/edit/manage all the content and activities of the course and perform all grading functions. Appears in Classlist as “Super Leader” Uses: Used when enrolling an ‘Owner’ or ‘Owners’ of community / non-academic courses. Users with this role can then manually enroll other Leaders and Participants into the non-academic course. LeaderExact copy of the Instructor role Leaders can manage the course. Leaders can add/edit/manage all the content and activities of the course and perform all grading functions. Appears in Classlist as “Leader” Uses: Used when enrolling ‘instructor-type’ users into community / non-academic courses who need to manage the course, add content, activities, etc. The only difference between this and Super Leader is the ability for Super Leader to enroll users into the course. FacilitatorFacilitators are able to view course content, view and grade assignments and grade other activities. Facilitators can also communicate with students through discussions and email. Facilitators cannot add/edit/delete content. Facilitators cannot create/edit/delete Assignments, but they can view and grade Assignment submissions. Appears in Classlist as “Facilitator” Uses: Used when enrolling ‘instructor-type’ users that should be able to grade but should not delete/change course content or activities. This role has been developed over time by Elissa Tobin and Syed Abedi. Its been used for the following two use cases: When the English Placement Test was in Brightspace from 2020 to 2022, english graders and testing staff were enrolled as Facilitators so they could access results and grade student work but could not change or delete the course content. TR English/Communication department has “readers” that get added to academic courses at end of term to evaluate student work on an end of term assignment. Assessor (Assgn)Originally copied from Facilitator role, but with very limited permissions at course offering level Only has access to Assignments (view, edit, grade), Rubrics (view, edit, grade with), Competencies (normal instructor access), and Import/Export/Copy Components No access to Announcements, Content, Grades, Quizzes, Discussions, or anything else other than what is listed above. User does not appear in Classlist Uses: Created especially for two groups at TR. Initially created for their ISLO assessment project for Writing Communication. See project: TR ISLO Assessment (Elissa Tobin, Jen Asimow, Brandon Bumstead) What the user with this role has to do: User with this role would be explicitly enrolled into identified courses with also a new user account (tr-assessor). Appears in Classlist as “Course Reviewer” Uses: Used when enrolling ‘instructor-type’ users for the purpose of reviewing a course’s design/layout/setup. Master Course CopierCopy of Facilitator role but with more limited access. Might need to review this role and delete if duplicated?? Main difference between this role and the Course Reviewer role is the access to Import/Export/Copy Components. This role is mostly Read-only. Cannot manage Content, Assignments, Discussions, Quizzes, Dates. Can view Assignment and Discussion submissions, but cannot view Quiz Submissions. Master Course Copier can communicate with students through discussions and email Master Course Copier cannot add/edit/delete content. Appears in Classlist as “Master Course Copier” Uses: The purpose of this role was originally for users to be added to master courses to view the course design and content and copy out of the course into their own, but to not be able to delete or manage anything. So like for resource courses or master courses This role was originally developed by E. Tobin. Its been used for the following use cases: Taxi/Limo instructors to be able to copy out the master course without being able to edit the course.
