Use of TurnItIn Ends Soon. New Platform Forthcoming
Dear faculty,
In fall 2025, City Colleges of Chicago will end our use of the Turnitin (TII) Originality Checker because City Colleges is unable to accept the company’s new terms and conditions, which would put student data and privacy at risk.
What can we use instead?
City Colleges will enter into a one-year agreement with D2L to license CopyLeaks. CopyLeaks is an originality checking platform that integrates with Brightspace. CopyLeaks also includes optional AI detection.
When is this happening?
City Colleges’ contract with Turnitin expires on September 20, 2025. We hope to have CopyLeaks in place as soon as possible and will email you with an update once that happens. Training will be provided in advance of the transition.
In 2025-26, the Instructional Quality and Innovation team will be facilitating a collaborative Request for Proposals process to enable faculty and staff to identify a long-term solution.
